LONDON - Ad agencies could find their ideas for the new 2012 Olympics mascot put to a public vote as the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games considers how to get public buy-in for the mascot.

Simon Cowell is said to have been suggested as a potential partner in the creation of an X Factor-style TV programme format.

There are currently five agencies involved in the pitch to find a mascot, which began in October.

This will be cut to three, which will then put their ideas forward for the vote.

A spokesman for London 2012 said: "When we started the process, we were clear that public engagement was a key part of the brief.  To narrow it down to a single mechanic is pure speculation."
