Adidas pairs Beckham with Bush for US sports fans

LONDON - Adidas is launching a campaign in the US this week featuring David Beckham trying out American Football with New Orleans Saints star Reggie Bush, echoing a previous UK campaign where Beckham starred alongside rugby player Jonny Wilkinson.

The campaign is the start of what is expected to be a blitz of advertising leading up to Beckham's move to Los Angeles Galaxy next month. Alexei Lalas, Galaxy president, said: "It will be a coordinated blitz, if you will. There will be obviously stuff from Adidas, Galaxy, ESPN and a bunch of other ones."

David Beckham trained alongside England rugby player Jonny Wilkinson in a campaign for Adidas Predator boots four years ago, with Beckham instructing the England fly-half on how to kick a football while Wilkinson taught Beckham about rugby.

In the new "Futbol vs. Football" campaign Beckham and New Orleans Saints running back Reggie Bush swap sports during practice.

Stephen Pierpoint, vice-president of brand marketing for Adidas America, said that there are very few people whose names transcend their own sports but people know the name of David Beckham whether they follow football or not.
