Agencies line up to pitch for worldwide Chevron Texaco job

Chevron Texaco, the newly created oil giant, is reviewing its

global creative agency requirements.



The company is reviewing the global Chevron corporate account, held by

Young & Rubicam San Francisco, and has also been talking to UK agencies

about project work. Agency sources also suggest that Chevron Texaco is

about to call a review of its creative requirements in Europe.



The Texaco brand will continue to be used across Europe. Chevron will be

used mainly in the US with a third brand, Caltex, in parts of Asia and

Africa.



HHCL & Partners handles the £10 million UK Texaco account. A

Chevron Texaco spokeswoman in the UK said: "We work closely with HHCL

and nothing will change in the short term but everything will be

reviewed."



In the UK, the majority of Texaco's spend is below the line on activity

including sponsoring ITV's Formula 1 coverage.



Texaco, which has more than 1,000 forecourts in the UK, spent less than

£1 million on above-the-line activity last year. HHCL won the

business in 1999 from IMP. HHCL's account director, Clare Griffiths,

said: "Texaco is keeping its agencies in Europe."



Texaco and Chevron have already consolidated their offices in the

UK.



The merger, announced earlier this year, was approved last month.
