include Denim for drinking and the Palais du Jardin for food - the

restaurant was voted top media haunt at the Carlton Eating and Drinking

Awards last year.

Carlton Digital Sales is housed in an open-plan office displaying little

of the glamour promised by the facade. ’The best thing is our video

archive where staff can check out films,’ says an insider.

What’s it like? Apparently, people at Carlton Digital Sales are health

conscious and visit the gym every other lunchtime. At least 35 per cent

of the female staff think they are overweight and check in to a weekly

Weight Watchers session on Charing Cross Road. ’Which is bloody

ridiculous as they look absolutely gorgeous,’ opines one sales


What about perks? For some it’s the free tickets to ONdigital sports

events, for others it’s a complimentary meal at one of the UK’s finest

eateries, courtesy of the Carlton Food Network. Sales staff can get an

optional subscription to ONdigital at a discounted rate. Otherwise, the

standard Carlton Television benefits apply, including an optional

pension scheme, 25 days’ holiday a year and discounted gym


Is it good at training? Each sales executive gets an hour a week with an

account manager to learn the tricks of the trade. There’s also a

department bible - a manual devised to help the team impress clients and


How does it recruit? Promotion within the organisation is the favoured

route. The department makes a point of not recruiting people from TSMS

or Granada.

How do you get ahead? Abandon that Sunday morning lie in and start

clocking in at the weekends.
