AKQA buys global search marketing business

AKQA is moving into online search with the acquisition of SearchRev, a global search engine marketing company, for an undisclosed sum.

SearchRev will become a wholly owned subsidiary of AKQA, which will enable the digital agency to use SearchRev technology to strengthen its communications planning as well as giving its clients access to better search facilities.

It is the first major acquisition for AKQA since the digital agency sold a majority stake to the US private equity company General Atlantic in February for a sum thought to be around $250 million.

The two companies, which share a client in Coca-Cola, will remain separate to avoid conflict issues. SearchRev will continue to be run by its chief operating officer, David Kandasamy, and chief revenue officer, Eduardo Llach.

Ajaz Ahmed, the chairman of AKQA, said: "SearchRev gives AKQA a world-class search marketing solution for our clients. The acquisition of SearchRev is our first step in creating the next generation of digital marketing services networks."
