The ad, created by McCann UK, is set on Christmas Eve and features narration by actor Jim Broadbent in the style of the poem A Visit From St. Nicholas, which begins with the infamous line "T'was the night before Christmas".
It shows a carrot’s struggles to make its way across a room in a bid to meet Santa Claus by waiting by the mince pie left out for him.
After a dangerous journey across a dinner table spread with a traditional Christmas Day feast, it falls asleep by the pie and wakes up to find it has been hung up on Santa’s sleigh as a lure to make the reindeer go faster.
The spot was created by Clive Davis and Andy Fenton and directed by Todd Mueller and Kylie Matulick for Psyop/Stink. UM Manchester is handing media planning and buying for the ad, which debuted earlier today during This Morning on ITV.
Aldi will be selling a £2.99 soft toy of the carrot, which it has named Kevin, in stores from 24 November. Profits will go to the supermarket’s charity of the year, Barnardo’s.
