Alexander named UK's top ad lawyer

Roger Alexander, the Lewis Silkin senior partner, is confirmed as the UK's pre-eminent advertising lawyer in the latest edition of the Legal 500, which ranks Britain's specialist legal experts.

In the rankings, based on interviews with lawyers' clients and colleagues, Alexander is described as "commanding enormous respect for his corporate and employment advice" and for his ability to "think laterally".

As a result, Lewis Silkin's marketing services law group, whose clients include Havas, Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO and St Luke's, moves to the top of the Legal 500 rankings owing to "unrivalled strength in depth".

Meanwhile, Hammond Suddards Edge has consolidated its place in the rankings thanks to a strengthened advertising and marketing practice led by Robert Wegenek, who is rated for his "pragmatic advice and business knowledge".

Jeremy Courtenay-Stamp, the Macfarlanes advertising and marketing specialist, is praised for his understanding of the business and his ability to explain it in plain English. Stephen Groom is singled out as the key to Osborne-Clarke's reputation and his skill at advising on "difficult or cutting-edge campaigns".

Taylor Wessing's team, led by Charles Lloyd and Richard Pertwee, is cited for its work with Omnicom and the Simkins Partnership's Charles Swan is rated for his extensive contacts with the industry's regulatory bodies.
