The funding round to help stage the alternative festival closed on Wednesday (3 April), superceding its target of £30,000. A total of £61,672 was raised.

Contributors were incentivised by a number of tiered package offers such as discounts, free tickets, T-shirts and the chance to play on the main stage. They could pledge amounts from £5 to £3,000.

The fundraising is the latest example of the festival’s democratising approach, which aims to involve fans at all levels in shaping the event. Organisers have already asked fans their opinions on the line-up and festival infrastructure.

Alt-Fest is organised by the founders of London bi-monthly club night Club Antichrist which attracts 1,200 to its events.

More than 75 bands decided by fans have been booked, including Fields of Nephilim, Atari Teenage Riot, Alec Empire, KMFDM and Breed 77.

The festival will be held at Boughton House, Kettering, Northamptonshire on 15-17 August 2014. The site has a capacity of 50,000, although it can be configured for a smaller event. It will break even at 10,000 tickets, according to the organisers.

Alt-Fest founder Dom Void said: "The enthusiasm for the event is hugely encouraging; we can’t wait to involve all the people in the next steps of the process. There may be over a year to go but there will be a regular communication with our backers and together we hope they can help us build an amazing festival, not just with the money they’ve now contributed but with their opinions too."
