Amazon.com will challenge Dixons by offering a wider range of goods at lower prices. The move follows the launch of Amazon's US online electrical store. However, UK consumers are likely to have to wait until the end of next year before the Amazon store comes online.

Amazon is also planning to launch an auction store in the UK that will compete with QXL.
