Channel 4 and Outdoor Connection were positively Oval the moon this
week, as they Lorded it over the opposition with their innovative
cricket test match posters (enough of the dreadful puns - ed).
The 48-sheets, which were erected at eight separate locations around
London, were transformed into scoreboards, each manned by its very own
Dickie Bird lookalike wearing the full umpire regalia of white coat and
hat, and accompanied by an un-umpire-like stepladder.
As England knocked off the wickets, the ’umpires’, who were listening to
the match on portable radios, changed the scores accordingly, keeping
the passing cars up-to-date with Caddick’s demolition job of the
Windies, and Corkie’s formidable last stand.
One wag suggested ’the drive had pushed the boundaries of outdoor
advertising and hooked a considerable crowd of fans’.
The campaign was put together by OMD UK, which handles Channel 4’s media
account, and Outdoor Connection, which planned and bought the campaign
through account director Lisa Lyte. Rapier took charge of the creative
and Freight Media was responsible for printing and erection.
