ANALYSIS: SALE OF THE WEEK

When Cabal sales executive Nairn Foster heard a client was looking for somewhere to plug his six-inch sausage, he knew he had the solution.

When Cabal sales executive Nairn Foster heard a client was looking

for somewhere to plug his six-inch sausage, he knew he had the

solution.

Stick it on the cover of Front ... preferably next to an unfeasibly

large-chested blonde. That’ll get their attention.

The result can be seen in the August issue of Foster’s magazine. The

solus promotion for Pork Farm Bowyer’s Extreme features a covermounted

free sample of its new rival to Peperami, plus two full-page

advertisements.

The first ad carries the tagline ’who wants to snog girls anyway?’ and

is positioned opposite Front’s regular Mate in a State feature. The

second poses the question ’fancy a snack in the mouth?’ and faces the

column written by Front contributor and alleged gangster ’Dodgy’ Dave

Courtney.

The idea arose from a casual telephone conversation between Foster and

Expert Media’s Nick Barron. ’They wanted to reach men under 25 who spend

a lot of time in pubs and might like to sample a free six-inch sausage,’

said Foster. ’That sounded like Front readers to me. It might be the

closest to a square meal they get.’
