Annette King, chief executive at Ogilvy & Mather Group UK
All I did was work hard. The rest was down to other people. The people who set up the first agency I worked for and hired me on the spot when I presented myself fresh from college. They taught me how to be versatile, roll my sleeves up and take risks.
The people I worked with at my first big agency. They taught me how to be part of a team, love creativity and enjoy working with great clients.
The people who took a bet on me coming to work for them in New York, even though they’d never met me and I’d never even been to America.
They taught me that feedback is good, winning is everything and that you should always be very, very clear about what you want from your career.
The people at Ogilvy who hired me to do a job, which they then taught me to do well. The boss who promoted me seven times over the years, twice while I was on maternity leave.
And all the others who I’ve had the privilege to work with at Ogilvy over the past 15 years. The friends, the teachers, the troops, the geniuses, the mercenaries, the obsessives, the challengers, the inspirers, the dreamers, the people who make it all happen.
These are the people who helped me get where I am today. Them, and bloody hard work.
The theme of International Women's Day 2015 is "Make It Happen'. Throughout this week Campaign will be running pieces about how leading women in the industry have "made it".
