The Annual 2006: Top 10 worst dressed

1. Rory Sutherland

It's not that the amusing and hyper-intelligent OgilvyOne vice-chairman Sutherland attempts to dress well and gets it wrong, like so many others from this list. It's just he doesn't make any attempt at all. Even with a fresh outfit, he'd still manage to look like he had an egg stain on his tie. The fact he's looked the same since 1987 proves this, and that makes him the sweetest worst dressed entrant.

2. Guy Phillipson

Phillipson attempts to be a snappy dresser, but matching your socks to your watch and cufflinks is just one step too far. However, the main reason why the IAB's chief has been included in this list is down to his rather startling weekend fashion.

3. MT Rainey

Famously sported an outfit so outlandish that it has gone down in the annals of advertising history. Rainey's Day-Glo orange and white swirly mini-dress with thigh-high boots and puffer jacket body warmer was named the "tangerine dream" by one shocked observer.

4. Enda McCarthy

A young buck around town, DraftFCB's managing director really goes for it when it comes to dressing. Never will you find him without matching his socks to his shirt. However, when the shirts are so ghastly, we hope he never takes his shoes off. Less than impressive.

5. Bruce Haines

Haines is the undoubted leader of a growing pack of agency heads who prowl around adland wearing polo neck sweaters with jeans and a suit jacket. A study of the nature of these beasts and their clothing habits has yet to be commissioned, but Bill Oddie is apparently interested.

6. Sid McGrath

A fully paid-up member of the "Horrendous Shirt Brigade", McGrath seems to have no qualms about wearing his pyjama tops outdoors. The Karmarama partner also has a tendency to wear trousers a bit too short, so that it looks like he should spread some jam on his ankles and invite his trousers down to lunch.

7. Juliet Blackburn

Another entrant from that trendy market known as digital, the AAR's Blackburn often looks as if it takes her seven seconds to choose her wardrobe - and that her wardrobe is a pile of clothes on the floor.

8. Will Collin

Collin sticks out like a sore thumb in adland. When standing next to the rest of the Naked guys - resplendent in their cool T-shirts hanging outside of their trendy jeans - having trousers wedged tight underneath your chest a la Simon Cowell just won't cut it. The piece de resistance is the staunch refusal to untuck the T-shirt from the ridiculously high waistband.

9. Nick Bell

It is beginning to look like JWT's Bell has had his blue jumper surgically sewn to his body. Whether this is the case, or he just doesn't like dressing up for anything, no-one seems to know. On the rare occasion he does defy all of his own conventions, he can be found in the same Armani suit.

10. James Murphy

RKCR/Y&R's Murphy is one of those characters who probably knows how one should dress, and sees in his mind's eye a cannily attired chief exec. However, he seems to be one of those unfortunate cases where all the components are right but the end product inexplicably ends up being wrong.
