Tony Adams, Arsenal’s Double-winning team captain, has been signed
by McVitie’s to make his solo advertising debut in a television campaign
for Jaffa Cakes.
The England international defender teams up with the BBC soccer pundit,
Jimmy Hill - who provides the voiceover - in a film which breaks on
Monday and will run throughout this summer’s World Cup finals.
It is the first commercial Adams has starred in by himself, although he
has appeared with other members of England’s World Cup squad in a spot
In the ad - which is shot in the grainy style of a home video - Adams
sends up his hard-man reputation by pretending to be reduced to tears at
being kidnapped by the ’Orangey Tang Gang’.
Publicis has produced the ads for the pounds 650,000 campaign, designed
to encourage children to collect the ’gang’ - a group of orange
gonk-style toys - through an on-pack promotion. Media buying is by Leo
