ASA receives Sweeney Todd violence complaint

LONDON - The Advertising Standards Authority has received a complaint that the poster campaign for Tim Burton's new film, Sweeney Todd, glorifies violence. complaint complaint

Campaign group Stop Crude Advertising Material in Public (SCAMP) has lodged an objection to the ad, which shows Johnny Depp brandishing a razor.

But the ASA also denied it had received complaints that filmgoers were duped by the trailer for the film.

National newspapers reported that the authority had taken a number of calls from viewers saying the trailer did not make it clear that the film was a musical.

The reports said audience members had walked out of showings of the film because they did not realise there is virtually no spoken dialogue in the film.
