- Autobytel.com, which runs an online car-buying service, has named Grey Advertising, New York, to its above the line advertising account.

The move follows the appointment earlier this year of Grey Interactive to handle Autobytel.com's online ad account.

Although budgets were not disclosed, Autobytel.com, which is based in Irvine, California, has announced plans to increase its total marketing spend considerably next year from the $20 million invested in 1998.

Autobytel.com is one of a growing number of interactive companies to appoint traditional ad agencies to grow their business and attract consumers who are not yet online.

Other interactive firms that have recently hired traditional agencies to develop offline campaigns are Snap, the NBC owned search engine which named Saatchi & Saatchi, San Francisco, and ZDTV, the cable network run by Ziff-Davis, which chose the San Francisco office of Foote, Cone & Belding.
