- Matthew Bannister, BBC director of marketing, quit the corporation this morning in a move which has surprised the industry.

It is understood that he has no job to go to and is quitting for personal reasons. Bannister was in the middle of overseeing a full-scale review of the BBC's creative account. The pitch will go ahead as planned, according to sources, but it is not known is the BBC will make a final appointment before his successor is in place. Fallon, Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, Leagas Delaney and Duckworth Finn Grubb Waters have reached the second stage in the pitch process. The new list sees Circus and J. Walter Thompson knocked off the BBC roster.

Bannister took over the BBC's marketing as part of Greg Dyke's management restructure in April.
