Barclay brothers' Net Media appoints Agency.com

– Agency.com has been appointed by the Barclay brothers-backed internet operation, the Net Media Group, to develop its complete e-business strategy. As part of the announcement Agency.com will build one of the first dedicated pan-European business-to-business vertical portals – know as vortals – and will have overall responsibility for strategy, development and implementation. Net Media was founded by Andrew Neil, former editor of The Sunday Times, in October. Neil is a publisher at the Barclay brothers' newspaper operation, Press Holdings. The vortal will offer a combination of tailored content, community and cutting edge e-commerce. It will be targeted at small- and medium-sized enterprises. The service will launch initially in the UK, France and Germany. Damian Gilbert, chief executive of The Net Media Group, said: "The European internet market is rapidly emerging but, as yet, there are few pan-European business sites that exist as a business-to-business tool for the user."
