- The BBC has hit a ratings crisis with the revelation that audiences dropped to just 1.9 million at one point on Wednesday night.
The BBC has admitted that it was the station's worst night since BBC TV began in 1946. Normally one in three viewers tunes in during prime time but on Wednesday, audiences opted for ITV's Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and Channel 5's coverage of England's match against Poland.
Channel 5 scored 18.7 per cent of the audience share, beating BBC 1's paltry 18.1 per cent. ITV's smash hit Who Wants To Be A Millionaire quiz show however, managed to pull in the lion's share of 38.7 per cent.
