- The BBC is searching for a partner to raise finance for its website, beeb.com.
It is thought that BBC Worldwide, which jointly owns the site with the IT services company, ICL, has appointed advisors to secure financial backing for the site. Beeb.com differs from BBC Online in that it contains advertising.
BBC Worldwide has already raised 27 per cent (£210 million) of beeb.com's value from privately capital in existing joint ventures. These include UKTV, which it owns with Flextech, the pay-TV group.
The BBC's commercial arm uses its revenue to support the public broadcasting service by topping up the UK licence fee. A government committee, chaired by the economist Gavyn Davies, was formed to make proposals to maximise that contribution which last year topped £80 million.
