- BBC World has announced plans to create its own airtime sales operation across Asia and India.
The BBC plans to open offices in Singapore, Hong Kong and key Indian cities.
Advertising sales and sponsorship were formerly handled for BBC World in Asia by the Rupert Murdoch-owned Star TV.
However, to avoid any future conflict of interest between Star TV's growing platform of channels and BBC's growing range of activities in the region, it has been decided to let the contract lapse.
The move is in line with BBC World's global strategy of taking direct control of all areas of its business and to drive greater revenue in line with distribution. The airtime sales operation will now be handled by an expanded regionally based in-house team.
