The ITN News Channel, a digital joint venture between ITN and NTL,

has appointed Bartle Bogle Hegarty and BMP Solutions in Media to work on

its creative and media accounts.

The channel, which laun-ches on 1 August, appointed BBH following a

three-way pitch against BMP DDB and one other agency. Lambie-Nairn will

work with BBH to create a brand identity. The service is the first full

multi-media digital news channel.

Stewart Purvis, ITN’s chief executive, said: ’We were particularly

impressed by the strength of BBH’s thinking. They understood perfectly

the power of the ITN brand and the ambitious nature of the ITN News

Channel. BMP Solutions in Media impressed us with their ideas for

integrating mainstream and new media.’

The 24-hour TV news channel will be available on television, digital

radio, PCs and mobile phones. It will have interactive content where

viewers can pull down additional information on news, sport, business

and the weather.

ITN News Channel will be competing against existing services such as Sky

News’s new 24-hour interactive channel Sky News Active.

It has lined up a strong programme of presenters, including the former

News at Ten anchor Julia Somerville, and newsreaders Carol Barnes and

John Suchet. Over 12 million UK viewers, which is the equivalent to a

third of the country’s TV-watching population, will be able to tune into

the new channel.
