HHCL and Partners has hired Richard Packer, a senior television
producer at Bartle Bogle Hegarty, as its new head of television.
Packer, 30, replaces Zoe Bell who left the agency in January to set up
her own production company, Upfront Films, a vehicle for agency
creatives who want to direct their own ads.
Robin Azis , an HHCL partner, said: ’It was a real loss losing Zoe. Axel
(Chaldecott, the joint creative partner) and I have been looking around
for the last six months. We wanted somebody who could take HHCL’s TV
department into the future particularly with the launch of digital
channels. Richard is a delightful guy with bags of energy and will do
things in an untraditional way.’
Packer added: ’It was very hard to leave BBH, which is a great
But Howell Henry will give me the opportunity to do something different
- to help reinvent the TV department of the future.’
Packer started his career in the dispatch department of Collett
Dickenson Pearce in 1984 and worked up to producer. In 1992, he left
with CDP’s then head of TV, Mark Andrews, to start Propaganda’s London
But after four months he returned to CDP as head of TV. He joined Harry
Films as a producer in 1994, then moved to BBH in 1995.
Bell, who worked at with Howell Henry for five years, launched Upfront
in March with Sheila Simpson, a founding member of the HHCL
Upfront does not have a roster of directors but works on an ad hoc basis
with agency creatives.
