BBJ beats Zenith to pick up £22m HBOS group account

BBJ has won the £22 million consolidated media account for

the Halifax Bank of Scotland group, ending Zenith Media's 13-year

relationship with the Halifax brand.

The result follows a pitch for the business between Zenith and the Carat

group, which was represented by BBJ and Feather Brooksbank, the

incumbent on the £5 million Bank of Scotland account.

BBJ's London office will run the account, with additional planning and

buying from Feather Brooksbank in the Scottish market. The win gives BBJ

its first financial services client since its Guardian Royal Exchange

account was folded into the AXA business two years ago.

"Halifax has enjoyed an excellent relationship with Zenith over the past

13 years but, following the creation of HBOS, a review of the media

buying business was essential," Philip Hanson, HBOS's head of marketing

and customer relations, said.

"We are looking forward to developing an equally successful partnership

with BBJ and through it continuing our relationship with Feather

Brooksbank in Scotland."

The HBOS business includes the Clerical & Medical brand, as well as all

credit card, current account, online and offshore banking and personal

loans services.

The move comes less than three months after the completion of Halifax's

merger with Bank of Scotland, first announced in May.

Hanson was appointed as HBOS's marketing director in August and

Halifax's incumbent ad agency, Delaney Lund Knox Warren & Partners, went

on to win the combined creative account.
