Omnicom has announced the merger of TBWA International and BDDP
The organisation will be called TBWA Worldwide.
Two of Omnicom’s London agencies - GGT and TBWA Simons Palmer - will
merge within four weeks to become a top five agency with combined
billings of about pounds 250 million. It will bear the name TBWA GGT
Simons Palmer and will be run jointly by Carl Johnson, the chief
executive of TBWA Simons Palmer, and Paul Bainsfair, the chairman of
GGT. The pair have said there will be ’very few redundancies’.
Trevor Beattie, GGT’s creative director, is taking the post of creative
director of the new agency. He returns to run the department he left in
January 1997, when he walked away from TBWA following its merger with
Tony Moore and Guy Malcolm, joint creative directors at TBWA Simons
Palmer, are likely to agree a financial settlement and leave.
Paul Simons, chairman of TBWA Simons Palmer, is to distance himself from
the main agency business to become the chairman of the newly formed TBWA
UK group of companies.
