The Mascarathon relay, taking place from 15 – 29 June, will start at Edinburgh and stop off at Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff, Oxford. It will end in Spitalfields, London.

Agency ID Experiential is running the event, along with Snow PR.

TV presenter Caroline Flack is fronting the campaign and kicking off the proceedings in Edinburgh by running the first two miles.

Other celebrity runners include Donna Air and Zoe Salmon. They will all be running two miles each to mark the two women a week who lose their lives to domestic violence.

Each runner will carry a giant 'They're Real'-branded mascara wand that will act as a baton to pass from runner to runner. Along the way there will be a range of consumer areas for runners and supporters, including make-up stations and sample giveaways.

Sandra Horley, chief executive of Refuge, said the charity is "delighted" to be working with Benefit on the event.

"This event will reach out to women throughout the country who may personally be experiencing domestic violence – or who will know someone experiencing domestic violence. Together, Benefit and Refuge will empower women with essential life changing information to help them live a life free from violence and fear. We are delighted that Benefit is getting behind the cause and leveraging support."
