Big Brother bows out with 3.7 million viewers

An average of 3.7 million people watched as Brian Dowling was crowned the winner of 'Ultimate Big Brother' on Friday night, in the final outing for the reality TV series on Channel 4.

The audience for the final of ‘Ultimate Big Brother’ fell short of the non-celebrity final, which bowed out on a high of 4.57 million between 10.15pm and 10.45pm on 24 August, according to unofficial overnight figures.

‘Ultimate Big Brother: The Final Hour’ was watched by an average of 3.5 million viewers on Channel 4 between 10.30pm and 11.30pm, a 23.3% share of the TV watching audience. An additional 162,500 watched the show on Channel 4+1.

A bumper night of ‘Big Brother’ coverage began with ‘Ultimate Big Brother’ between 7.30pm and 9.30pm with an average audience of 2.49 million people on Channel 4, an 11% share of the TV watching audience.

A further 195,100 people watched the two-hour show of clips of the final 24 hours in the house on Channel 4+1.

‘Big Brother: Dermot's Last Supper’ was watched by an average of 2.98 million between 9.30pm and 10pm, a 13% share of the TV watching audience. A further 112,100 watched Dermot deliver backstage gossip on Channel 4+1.

The third show, ‘Big Brother: Davina's Big Send Off’ was watched by an average of 3.2 million people between 10pm and 10.30pm, a 15.8% share of the TV watching audience.

ITV1 dominated the schedules on Saturday night with the talent competition ‘The X Factor’ and the new celebrity reality show ‘71 Degrees North’, which stars famous people undertaking challenges at freezing temperatures.

The latest episode of ‘The X Factor’ had an average audience of 10.78 million between 7.45pm and 9pm on ITV1 and ITV1 HD, a 44.5% share of the TV watching audience.

Saturday’s audience was up from last week (4 September), when the show had an average audience of 10.57 viewers, but behind the launch show which had average audience of 11.08 million viewers on 21 August.

‘71 Degrees North’ was watched by an average of 4.82 million between 9pm and 10pm on ITV1 and ITV1 HD, a 22.1% share of the TV watching audience.
