Adrian Birchall, the chairman of MediaVest UK, is retiring at the end of the year.

Birchall, who took on the job in May when the Starcom MediaVest Group was form- ed, will not be replaced. Jim Marshall will continue as the chief executive.

Birchall founded The Media Centre in 1991, which changed its name to Media- Vest six years later.

He said: 'I am very proud of what we were able to achieve in the early days. It has been very exciting to be involved with the merger of MediaVest and Starcom to create the Starcom MediaVest Group, one of the biggest media companies in the world.'

He joined Lintas London in 1969 as a media researcher. He went on to become the media director at BBDO London before joining D'Arcy in 1986 as the media director and vice-chairman. Having founded The Media Centre five years later, he became the president of MediaVest EMEA in 1997.
