BJK&E Media has poached Western International Media’s award-winning

senior planner/buyer Dan Matthews to work on pounds 25 million-worth of

business.

Matthews, who runs Western’s Vauxhall account under group director Steve

Pople, will join rival media firm BJK&E as group head on 24 January.

The 25-year-old will be responsible for nine clients including New

Balance, Fleming Save & Prosper, the Teacher Training Agency,

Bigsave.com, Naya mineral water and the pounds 6 million garden care

company Scotts, which makes Miracle-gro, Evergreen and Weedol. He will

report to associate director Richard Parsons.

Matthews joined Western three years ago from BBJ Media when he began his

media career as a trainee.

Matthews caught the eye of BJK&E managing director Mark Patterson when

he and Pople jointly won the Launch Strategy of the Year accolade at the

Media Week awards for their launch of the Vauxhall Movano Van.

Matthews’ team also picked up the top prize at the Advertising

Association’s annual media business course, held in Brighton last

November, for creating a brief for Heineken. Patterson was a judge at

the event.

Patterson is also looking for an international account director with

more than two years experience to handle a raft of global accounts,

including Fujitsu, Nortel Networks and Unisys.

Eight-year-old BJK&E has 23 staff and recorded billings of pounds 91

million in 1999.
