Peter Clay, the assistant managing director of BMP DDB, is planning
to leave the advertising industry this autumn.
Clay, 37, joined the agency as a graduate trainee and has been with BMP
for 16 years. The agency’s head of account management for three years
until 1997, Clay then ran the multi-award-winning Volkswagen account
during the year it was voted Campaign’s Advertiser of the Year. He
relinquished that role last year to focus on new business.
Clay was also part of the pitch team that converted the pounds 10
million National Savings account for BMP in April. He has been heading
the account at the agency ever since.
He is currently in negotiations with senior management regarding the
timing of his departure, which is not likely to take place until
September or October.
Clay would only confirm that speculation about his departure ’may be
true’, adding: ’It’s still under discussion.’ He said he was planning to
leave the advertising industry to ’do other things’.
Chris Powell, chairman of BMP DDB, said: ’Peter’s a true son of BMP and
his decision to do other things is a loss of talent to the industry.’
