BMP OMD’s second-string agency, BMP Solutions in Media, has picked
up the media planning and buying for the European sports site,
Sports.com, which is expected to spend more than pounds 5 million this
The agency won the business without a pitch after working on projects
for the new-media sports platform.
Tom Jessiman, managing director of Sports.com, said: ’We chose BMP
Solutions in Media as it had developed an understanding of our needs and
has created a strong media platform for us.’
Sports.com is planning a heavyweight campaign using radio sponsorship
and spot advertising, outdoor and online advertising. It will focus on
sponsoring sports programming on radio stations including Virgin,
Capital Gold, Century and TalkSport. Spot advertising around key
sporting events will support the sponsorships.
Chris Smith, the planning director of BMP Solutions In Media, said:
’This gives us the opportunity to demonstrate our strategic ability
across a whole range of disciplines.’
The win coincides with news that BMP OMD has resigned the media planning
and buying account for Alliance & Leicester.
BMP OMD’s managing director, Paul Taylor, refused to comment on the
resignation, but it is understood that the agency was frustrated by the
bank’s decision to review with the intention of separating media
planning and buying.
