- BOL, the online bookstore, has signed up to be the major book partner on a number of BT websites.
This one-year deal makes www.uk.bol.com the book channel on five BT sites, which are: BT Internet, BT Connect to Business, Talk 21 and Gameplay.
BOL offers access to every book in print in the UK and claims the largest number of international titles available through BOL links and partnerships.
BOL, which is part of the German media giant Bertelsmann, has a stated strategy of becoming the leading British bookshop on the internet and it is currently engaged in a head-to-head battle with US pioneer Amazon.
Two weeks ago BOL appointed M&C Saatchi to an estimated £6 to £8 million advertising campaign to promote its online bookstore. Amazon is also hunting for a new creative agency, but has yet to make a decision.
John Swingewood, director BT Internet & Multimedia, said: "Working with companies like BOL further enables us to give customers good reasons to get online. BOL's online book offering and their discounts will prove to be very appealing to many people already online and will tempt others to start exploring the Internet."
The five BT sites are located at the following internet addresses: www.btclick.com, www.btinternet.com, www.btconnect.bt.com, www.talk21.com and www.gameplay.com.
