Boots and The Daily Telegraph have launched a joint internet
venture, called handbag.com, in a bid to capture the women’s sector of
the online market.
The service goes live on 6 October and will offer free web access,
e-mail and online shopping alongside advice, news and chat.
Handbag.com’s managing director, Dominic Riley, said the venture would
be supported by ’the biggest launch campaign for a website in the UK’,
including 4,500 poster sites, radio ads, promotion in Boots stores and
banners on other websites.
J. Walter Thompson and MindShare will handle the launch advertising.
Riley is about to appoint an advertising sales house, while sponsorship
will be handled by an in-house team.
