- The US retailer Borders Books & Music has shortlisted five agencies for its $10 million (£6 million) US advertising account.

Arnold Communications, Grey Advertising, Perich + Partners and two other unnamed agencies are understood to be on the shortlist. The review is also thought to include media buying.

The account is currently handled by Butler, Shine & Stern in California, which won the account in 1997. Before that the business was held by Perich + Partners. It is unclear whether Butler, Shine & Stern will repitch for the business.

The winning agency will be charged with promoting both the company's web site, borders.com, as well as its retail outlets.

Borders faces stiff competition in the online market, where it competes directly against Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble.
