HHCL Brasserie has signed up the Liverpool footballer, Jamie
Redknapp, and the teen band, Boyzone, to star in its first campaign for
the Disney Channel.
The three ads aim to brand the channel and launch its roadshow, Splat
Attack. They revolve around two eccentric fairy godmothers, Gwenda and
Gwenneth, who live in a surreal living room on the top of a
cloud-covered mountain.
The first spot shows one of the godmothers, Gwenneth, settling down to
watch Redknapp on the Disney Channel and Gwenda complaining because she
wants to watch something else. While they bicker, Gwenda pulls out what
looks like a metal remote control and points it at the other
godmother.
As she presses the buttons, red and blue paint shoots out to form the
Disney Channel splat logo of Mickey Mouse’s head and ears on Gwenneth’s
cheek. The endline is: ’What’s going on.’
Boyzone are seen at the roadshow in another spot. Gwenneth sneaks into
the crowd and breaks through the barriers, only to be restrained by
bodyguards.
As she is bundled into a van, she points her ’zapper’ at one of the band
and paints the Disney logo on his cheek.
The pounds 2 million campaign will run on national terrestrial and
satellite channels for four weeks. It will be supported by national
four- and six-sheet posters covered in the splat logo and the same
endline.
The commercials were written and directed by Liz Whiston and Dave
Shelton at the Brasserie. Media is handled by BBJ Media Services.
The Brasserie won the Disney account in September.
