The UK version of Coca-Cola's iconic 1971 commercial "I'd like to teach the world to sing" is the centrepiece of a new archive of film and TV ads housed at the British Film Institute. The archive is part-funded by Coca-Cola GB, which has donated hundreds of its own ads to the project. The BFI plan is to locate, restore, digitise and make publicly available more than 100 years' worth of filmed commercials.
Other unusual properties in the archive include an ad for Dewar's whisky from 1897, an animated silent film for the Amplion speaker by the cartoonist and inventor W Heath Robinson, and a hitherto-lost animated cartoon for Rice Krispies from 1964 featuring an original soundtrack by the Rolling Stones.
