British Gas calls review of £35m DM account

British Gas has put an end to months of speculation by calling a review of its combined £35 million direct marketing accounts.

WWAV Rapp Collins and EHS Brann have been formally put on six-month notice periods, before a pitch in January. Both agencies have signalled their intentions to defend their respective accounts. British Gas expects to make a decision by May.

British Gas' energy account has been handled by WWAV since 1994, when it was appointed to create an integrated campaign alongside BMP DDB Needham. The then Evans Hunt Scott won its place on the British Gas roster in 1994, when it won the brief to work on the home services portion of the business.

The above-the-line advertising, held by Clemmow Hornby Inge, is not affected by this review. Reports that the energy supplier would review its media account, handled by Carat, have been vehemently denied by British Gas.
