Tim Broadbent, the planning director of Young & Rubicam at the time

of its merger with Rainey Kelly Campbell Roalfe in August, will leave

the agency at the end of the week.

Y&R offered Broadbent the New York-based post of director of strategy

for the Y&R network, but he declined the position because of his

commitments to the Institute of Practitioners in Advertising in

London.

Broadbent’s immediate plan is to travel for two months with his

wife.

He said: ’I’ll take stock when I get back.’ His potential plans include

some internet opportunities or becoming a consultant, but he is also

talking to London agencies about possible roles.

Y&R poached Broadbent from WCRS, where he was a board planning director,

in 1994. Broadbent said: ’I feel the job here has been done. A few years

ago, Y&R looked like it was dying on its feet and would probably drop

out of the top 20, but by the time of the merger it was growing at 40

per cent and now it is in the top ten.’

At WCRS, Broadbent worked on accounts such as the Prudential and

BMW.

He began his career doing market research at Beecham before moving to

Boase Massimi Pollitt - now BMP DDB. He has also worked at FCB and

Saatchi & Saatchi.
