The appointment of Brent concludes a six-month search to replace its former director of communications and brand marketing, Matthew Anderson.
Brent will report to Jeremy Darroch, BSkyB's chief executive, and take a seat on the company's executive committee, controlling an advertising budget in excess of £100m. He will join the company on October 1.
Brent will lead a team that includes Robert Tansey, BSkyB director of brand marketing, Alex Lewis, marketing director of Sky Networks, and Christian Cull, director of customer communications.
In his new role, Brent oversee BSkyB's celebrity-led Sky+ ads and the 'See, Speak Surf' and 'Believe in Better' campaigns, which were created by advertising agency WCRS.
Prior to his appointment, Brent oversaw the Department of Health's £75m obesity initiative in a consultancy role.
Before joining the DoH, Brent was chief marketing officer at Burger King International, having begun his career with a 13-year stint at Procter & Gamble.
His predecessor at Sky, Anderson, left to follow the satellite broadcaster's former chief executive James Murdoch to Wapping to become director of strategy for News Corporation's European and Asian operations.
