- BSkyB has announced that it plans to challenge ITN for the contract to supply ITV's news programmes.

ITN has made ITV's news coverage since the channel began and is now days away from launching its own new 24 hour news channel.

BSkyB has announced that it is seeking approval by the ITC to become the "nominated news provider", a prerequisite to pitch for the ITV news contract.

The news comes a few days after ITV announced it was taking the ITC to court over the regulator's demand that it bring forward the 11pm news slot which replaced the 10pm slot last year. The early time will return to ITN's 24 hour news channel tomorrow.
