British Sky Broadcasting is on target to sign up five million

subscribers to its digital services by the end of 2000.

Announcing its results for the year ending 30 June, BSkyB said its core

subscriber base now totalled 4.5 million.

It has signed up one million subscribers to its services over the past

12 months.

The company also announced that 80 per cent of its residential

subscribers had converted to its digital services by 25 July.

According to its financial report, ad revenue across all services

increased by 12 per cent to pounds 242 million, which was attributed to

’increased rates and greater penetration of Sky channels in UK

homes’.

BSkyB said the transition of analogue subscribers to digital had

’exceeded the group’s expectations’.
