Burda plots assault on UK celebrity magazine market

LONDON - Hubert Burda Media, the German publishing giant, is preparing to launch a celebrity and real-life title in the UK.

The publisher is pulling together an editorial team and is poaching staff from weekly titles to work on the as-yet unnamed magazine.

Simon Hesling, the former head of international development at Attic Futura and a consultant for Burda's previous UK launch Amber, is understood to be involved in the new project.

Amber, a version of Hubert's German title Young Lisa, was pulled from shelves several weeks after launch. The company also publishes Young Woman and Lisa.

Cabbell Publishing handled the advertising sales for the launch of Amber, but it is not involved in Burda's latest UK venture.

Nobody at Burda was available for comment as Campaign went to press.
