David Burgess, the former managing director of Harry Films, has

started up a new commercials production company called the Business.

Five directors - a mix of newcomers and established names - have already

signed up. The most high-profile recruit is the feature-film director,

Roland Joffe, best known for his films the Killing Fields and the

Mission, who has recently completed a Patak Spices ad for Travis Sennett

Sully Ross.

Burgess said: ’Over the last year I have combined working freelance with

finding the right blend of talents to share my enthusiasm and

experience.

The Business is now up and running.’

The company’s four other directors are Kevin Hewitt, Zowie Broach, Dean

Stockton and Richard Raymond. Hewitt collaborates regularly with Don

Letts, an alternative film-maker who has worked with the Clash, and

recently worked on a COI anti-drink-drive campaign for DMB&B.

Broach, who has worked with Red or Dead and Levi Strauss, established

her reputation as a stylist and art director, and as a director of pop

promos. Stockton, who has worked mostly on TV idents, is a former head

of graphics at both Sky and Carlton, and was a senior designer at

Channel 4, while Raymond, at 20, is the youngest member of the team and

is working on his first short film.
