Ged Burke, the former head of sales at Miller Freeman’s DotMusic
website, has joined a rival music site as commercial director.
Burke will head sales and sponsorship at MusicUnsigned.com, as well as
being responsible for the site’s pioneering directory of unsigned bands,
The Blue List.
Burke said MusicUnsigned was unique among music sites because it is
aimed at the industry and not consumers.
’Consumer-oriented sites such as PeopleSound pay bands, whereas bands
pay us to go onto The Blue List because it gives them access to A&R
staff at the record companies,’ he explained.
According to Burke, The Blue List will provide record companies with
talented unsigned bands, doing away with the need for demo tapes.
The Blue List has stolen a march on print directories of unsigned bands,
such as Music Week’s, which is expected to launch online later this
The Blue List will provide the main source of revenue for MusicUnsigned,
but Burke said there would also be banner ads and sponsorship
opportunities. He heads a sales team of four.
