Leo Burnett has promoted Harry MacAuslan, the former deputy chairman of JWT, to the position of deputy vice-chairman for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
MacAuslan moves up from the position of group account director and worldwide account head. His new role is designed to free up the network's head of Europe, Richard Pinder.
Reporting directly to Pinder, MacAuslan will be responsible for client services across the whole EMEA region. He will also continue running the Diageo account as the agency attempts to extend its relationship with the drinks giant. He brought close working ties with Diageo with him from JWT.
However, the promotion means that he may relinquish his senior management role within the London agency, where he worked closely with Bruce Haines, the group chief executive. Haines will continue to report to Pinder.
Pinder said: "Harry joined us a year ago with a brief to strengthen our relationship with Diageo as well as Bartle Bogle Hegarty (of which Burnett owns 49 per cent). With last week's news about BA and our relationship with the spirits brand growing, he has done just that. He complements the rest of the senior management and myself, in London and across the network, exceedingly well. It's great to have him working with our senior clients."
Burnett does not currently handle any Diageo UK work. The UK roster is BBH, Miles Calcraft Briginshaw Duffy, JWT, Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO and Mother.
However, outside of the UK, Burnett shares creative duties with BBH on Johnnie Walker Whiskies, Smirnoff Ice and Baileys. The agency also produces work for Pampero Rum and other products at a local European level.
MacAuslan resigned from JWT a year ago after 25 years with the company.
After joining JWT as a graduate trainee, MacAuslan worked his way up through the agency on the account services side where he looked after clients such as Barclays and ITV. He was promoted to the role of deputy chairman from head of account management in 1996. He joined Burnett in September 2004.
