C4 looks for Hollyoaks sponsorship deal

Hollyoaks: high advertising value

Channel 4 is looking to sign up a £6m to £7m sponsor for its teenage soap Hollyoaks.

The broadcaster said the soap, which has never before been sponsored, is attracting a great deal of interest among potential backers.

The station said it has placed a premium on the sponsorship package because the soap attracts a mostly teenage audience, which is notoriously hard to target.

The soap, which is shown three times a week with an omnibus on Sundays, is one of the station's key banker shows regularly attracting a three million-plus audience with a significant proportion in the 16 to 34-year-old age bracket.

Mel Briggs, Channel 4 sponsorship manager, said: "The chosen sponsor will get high advertising value and the
package will be for a 12-month period.

"A perfect fit would be something like a soft drinks company or any youth-targeted brands.

"Finding a sponsor for Hollyoaks is one of our key priorities in the sponsorship department at present."

C4 is also looking for a £2m sponsor for Ally McBeal, whose former sponsor was IPC website BeMe.com.

Briggs commented: "We are looking for a new sponsor for the new series which starts in August. A car or financial company would be a good fit.

"Sponsors will be attracted by the fact it is also carried on E4 and the sponsorship package will last for two financial years."

C4 also has high hopes for Will & Grace, a US comedy sitcom which is running on UK Living, but will be transferred to C4 later this year.

The sitcom, which is about two friends, one gay and the other straight, has scored good viewing figures in the US and C4 is hoping the right sponsor will come forward.
