- LineOne, the BT and United News & Media owned free ISP, has called for an inquiry into the launch by the commercial arm of the BBC of its free internet service, Freebeeb.
LineOne has raised concerns that BBC Worldwide's money-making internet service will be cross-promoted by the publicly funded BBC. Commercial companies are worried that an unfairly backed commercial BBC service will have a considerable advantage over rivals in the hugely competitive free ISP market.
Ajay Chowdhury, managing director of LineOne, said: "I have serious concerns that this commercial service will be cross promoted by the BBC, which is publicly funded. This service threatens to stifle the proper commercial development of an important UK market."
