Mighty, a new production company, launches this month with a roster

that includes Brian Griffin, the director who co-founded Produktion with

Lewis More O’Ferrall.

Sara Sinton and Amanda Coombes have set up Mighty, which will work on

commercials and pop promos, with Griffin and another director, Stuart

Rideout.

Coombes worked for six years at Smith Jones Brown and Cassie, where she

was a senior producer, working with top directors including Mel Smith,

Dave Brown and Charlie Paul. Sinton worked for many years with Julius

Cassar, and recently has been working as a freelance producer.

Sinton said: ’I decided to launch this company because I believe that to

be successful, commercials film outfits should be producer-led and also

fun places to work. This necessarily entails encouraging directors to

choose their own creative path. And I didn’t want to join another large

production company because I wanted to combine my management skills with

the nitty-gritty of producing.’

Griffin, who left Produktion at the beginning of this year, decided to

join up with a small, producer-based production company to develop his

film-making talents, rather than concentrate on running a business.

He explained: ’When you start to run a business you get

side-tracked.

That meant I couldn’t develop my career properly. Mighty is run by

people who are good to be with, who are totally unpretentious, yet

professional and committed.’

Griffin’s background is as a stills photographer and he has exhibited

across the country since 1975. He won a Bafta award for best commercial

of the year in 1992 for his Forte ’for the world’ spot through Saatchi

and Saatchi.

Other commercials on Grif-fin’s reel include Audi ’tunnel’, Murphy’s

’winter wonderland’ through Bartle Bogle Hegarty, and Sanatogen ’coal’

through WCRS. He also works on pop promos and has made short films.

Stuart Rideout started as a graphic designer. His first job after

graduating was as an assistant designer at Lambie Nairn, from where he

joined Quick on the Draw Productions as a senior designer and director,

before moving to do the same job at Original.

Rideout’s advertising reel includes two SFX spots through WCRS and three

commercials for Greens Cake Mixes, through Mitchell Patterson Grime

Mitchell, which go on air in June.
