Academy Commercials has signed up Peter Cattaneo, the director of
the Full Monty, this summer’s hit British film starring Trainspotting’s
Robert Carlyle.
Cattaneo, a graduate of the Royal College of Art, has worked almost
exclusively in TV for the past eight years, but spent time at the Paul
Weiland Film Company in 1991. As a student in 1988, he received a
special commendation in the Lloyds Bank student film awards for a spot
he wrote, directed and edited for Miller Lite.
The director also has a family history of advertising: his father, Tony
Cattaneo, formed the Soho-based animation company, Wyatt Cattaneo, where
the original Homepride flour men and Tetley Tea folk were animated.
Lizie Gower, the managing director of Academy, said: ’The Full Monty is
universally enjoyed and I am thrilled that Peter Cattaneo has chosen to
channel his creative talents into making commercials through
Academy.’
On television, Cattaneo directed a Screen Two play in 1995 called Loved
Up, and has also directed the Full Wax, the Bill, Diary of a Teenage
Health Freak 2, and a selection of short films.
Academy has also signed up Rob Green, whose short film, the Trick, is
showing with David Lynch’s latest film, Lost Highway. Magnus Carlsson, a
Swedish animator who made Radiohead’s promo for the single, Paranoid
Android, completes the trio of new signings.
