Flying Colours has set up a separate division called Fly to
encourage the work of its younger directors, Bluey Durrant, David Baksh
and Spencer Freszt. The company has also opened a sister operation in
Prague, called Flying Colours Prague, to service the central European
commercials production market.
Three new directors joined Tony Kaye & Partners this month: Edgar Wright
has worked for the BBC on programmes for Dennis Pennis and Alexei Sayle;
Rebecca Frayn has made South Bank Show programmes on Annie Leibowitz and
Nora Ephron; and Frederic Potier, who has a background as a fashion
photographer, has also worked in France and Belgium.
The Producers has signed five new names, all with a comedy bent. Three
are Scandinavian: Calle, who is already shooting with Bartle Bogle
Hegarty, Axel and Erik Poppe. Steve Price is best known as a promo
director, and Anthony Atanasio is new to commercials.
The Art Directors Club of Europe, which judges winners from the top
European creative awards schemes, held its annual awards in London this
month. The Grand Prix went to BMP DDB’s ’affordability’ campaign for
Volkswagen. Of the 11 golds, Switzerland and the Netherlands received
two each and Sweden, Norway and Italy took one apiece.
David Blair, the director of the Bafta award-winning BBC serial, the
Lakes, has signed with Wowhaus for commercials representation.
